Lower Fat and a Better Heart

Mar 21 2011

Today we are going to kick our week off with some diet recommendations that are designed to lower our fat and to help our heart.

Prevention Magazine has a wonderful plan called 28 Days to a Healthier Heart that can lower your risk of heart disease by a very significant amount.  We know how important diet is, but did you know that being true to yourself and having a good laugh can keep you fit?

On the MSN Fitbie website, there is a slide show from the editors of Men’s Health Magazine that reveals 8 Ways to Cut Fat without Realizing It.  I love the tip on keeping canned meats and soups in the fridge so that the fat separates and rises to the top, allowing you to scoop out the fat.  Who knew?!

Do these little lifestyle changes and live a healthier life!

St. Patrick’s Party Pics

Mar 18 2011

We started our weekend early with a big St. Patrick’s Day party here at The Villas at La Canada Assisted Living.  Our residents, staff and visiting family had a fabulous time at our Irish Soda Bread Social which featured big band music, mint chocolate chip ice cream and soda bread, of course!  Have a wonderful weekend!

Happy St. Patrick’s Day!

Mar 17 2011

In honor of St. Patrick’s Day, today’s blog theme is green.  First off, we will start with Eating Green, from the Healthy Eats section of the Food Network website.  This link shows you the best green foods to eat to keep you physically fit.  You probably already knew how abundant the vitamins are in such veggies as broccoli, but did you know that artichokes are high in vitamin C, folate, potassium and antioxidants?  Add this full list of greens to your next shopping list.

The next green on our St. Patty’s Day list has to do with gardening. To assist you with your green thumb, click on this link to Sunset Magazine online for their Plant Finder.  This is a great tool for determining what will grow best in your climate zone.

Our final link is to keep more green in your pockets. Money Magazine features a series on controlling debt.  One section in the series that I find to be a great resource is the Top Things to Know section.

Enjoy your St. Patrick’s Day and may the luck of the Irish be with you!
